Teen film festival winners announcedThe winners of the first Valley Center Teen Film Festival Awards were announced Saturday, June 27, at the festival's awards ceremony at the Valley Center Library. Ten teen films were nominated for nine award categories and the festival judges, Richard Rivera, Art Bierle and Cameron lzadi, were impressed by the quality of film making from all of the nominated movies.The top prize, Best Film / Director was awarded to Samantha Carr for Sins of the Father. Her film is about a young man who fights to overcome the harsh ridicule of his own family as he strives to be a champion track runner.William Stratford won Best Screenplay for the film, Without A Home, a story about a student struggling to survive being homeless.Two awards went to the film, We Walk Alone, an apocalyptical tale that takes place in the year 2013, as a survivor of a catastrophic war brings hope to a terrified girl who has lost her family. David Hichman took the Best Actor award for his performance as the survivor and Brendan Galanos won for Best Videography.The film Untitled #8 also won two awards. Morgan Boberg was chosen Best Actress for her role as a devastated girl who suffers a breakdown over the death of her younger brother. The film also received Best Editing honors, awarded to Boberg, Adam Favela and William Hay.The top prize winner at the film festival was Joshua Fabian, who took tome a total of three awards. Fabian and his film, Impact, a Rashomon style tale about a tragic car accident that is seen through three separate points of view, won Best Sound Design and Best Visual Effects.Fabian won his third award, Best Public Service Announcement, for the Valley Center Library, with a lighthearted look at a teen who finds that the stories he is reading in the library are suddenly coming to life—with him as the hero. The award-winning film is aptly titled: The Library.The awards will be on display at the library through July 18.The official awards will be presented to the teen filmmakers during a special program on Tuesday, July 21, beginning at 6 pm. All of the award-winning festival films will also be shown that evening in their entirety.Everybody is welcome to come to the July 21 event to see the winning films. Admission is free. Here's some stuff I filmed over the Fourth of July in Poway and Escondido, featuring a train robbery (2nd video), a performance of "That Tattered Old Flag" (3rd video), fireworks (3rd video), and performances by Marine Band San Diego (1st and 4th videos). Impact will be screened at the library on Wednesday afternoon and The Library will be shown daily as part of the PSA category.
The awards ceremony will be this Saturday 27 June at 6:00 PM at the library. While I probably don't intend on winning anything (except maybe PSA) this year (that's for next year, folks *evil laughter*), it's sure to be a fun time anyway. Come out and watch!

This is a film I made several weeks ago for my chemistry class's final project. Its (for my group) topic was "batteries," and the purpose was to make connections to material learned in the class throughout the year. It also had a time limit of 10 minutes, which we proudly came 4 (four) frames under, and even our chem teacher made a cammeo for the film at its finale. Enjoy!
Every year, the AP Euro(pean History) class at our school has a Risk tournament (using the old Risk II video game), and my team--its name reading "Super Happy Fun Time Hour Omega Mega Death Force Uber-Fantastic Sensational Charlie Alpha Crazy Bada-- Motherrespecting Insane-O Matic Frisky Loco Beta Gamma Kicka-- F-ing Death Squad. With Pandas. F YEAH!!!"--clobbered the competition. Here is some video of all fun during the final round of play (note: play is set to only 60% domination).

We're getting ready now to film our next big movie, a take on the famous Greek story of Antigone. Filming should begin AND wrap up Thursday, and I'll post it here next sometime late next week as it's completed.
